A summer of learning and exploring for children and adults
The Complex is announcing a jam-packed summer of arts in 2015!!! The Summer begins with our TWO WEEK PERFORMING AND CREATIVE ARTS SCHOOL open to students’ ages 5 to 12, July 13 to 24, take one week or two weeks! The two-week school is a creative/intensive/supportive learning environment for students that want to explore the arts in a concentrated atmosphere. Students will travel through four main areas of exploration: Dance (ballet, modern, improvisation, contemporary, choreography, movement exploration, and more), Theatre (character development, acting methods, play writing, scene study, games, production, building confidence), Music (rhythm, ensemble singing, theory, exploration of many types of music genres), Creative Arts (developing/understanding/and getting comfortable with your own creative process and expression, writing, group projects in various mediums, drawing, painting, and everything and anything that helps students to develop their creative voice)
A faculty of resident and guest artists will mentor students through the summer school in their areas of artistic and creative interests. The day will consist of technique/theory-based classes, as well as, explorative and process based work and experience, and many opportunities for the students’ own art making and exploration. Students will travel through all the mediums of art in small, age-based classes. Field trips to art-based or inspirational places will broaden student’s awareness and understanding of the arts and arts making around them. Students will have the opportunity to present and talk about their own work in a comfortable and supportive environment. This school is open to all levels of artistic student, beginner to advance, but all applicants must be passionate about learning and exploring.
The Summer moves on with an INTENSIVE ARTS FESTIVAL. The Intensive Arts Festival takes place August 10-14 for ages 11 to 21. The festival is a concentrated week of learning and exploring for the passionate student/artist. Students apply to attend the festival in their chosen discipline of study: Dance, Visual Arts, Theatre/Music, and Instrumental Music. Students will spend the week in classes training with renowned faculty, exploring their own creative process, learning classical and contemporary repertoire in their chosen disciplines, immersing themselves into their art practice and the refinement of their technical skills, and nourishing their creative spirit/process/uniqueness. A wonderful opportunity for exceptional, master-level education in a small community setting. The Intensive Festival is open to all students of the arts from the Northeastern CT Community and surrounding communities. Students are encouraged to apply early to ensure space. A placement audition is required of performing arts students.
The Summer of 2015 learning and exploring season concludes with a 24-HOUR CHOREOGRAPHY PROJECT. August 14 to 15 The Complex Performing Arts Centre is opening its doors to dancers/choreographers from near and far to spend 24 hours with us and create work! This is a rare opportunity for immersion. The 24-hour project is free of charge for its participants and encourages choreographers of all backgrounds to come together and create in an environment free of distractions and disruptions and rich with inspiration and support. A small/informal performance of the work will take place on August 15. For information on application contact The Complex. Project open to adults and teens ages 16 and up.
