The Eastern Connecticut Center for History, Art, and Performance, Inc. (EC-CHAP) represents an important cultural resource serving communities and visitors to Eastern Connecticut and beyond. The Center’s purpose is to bring a heightened awareness to the significance of local history and preservation; provide an appreciation for the visual arts through education, creation and display; and offer performance events and opportunities for creative expression in music, film, dance, literature, and theater.
Arts Center East is home to a rich artistic community. We value our Artist Members, and we invite you to visit our Artist Members page. We are a place where visual artists from across the state and beyond exhibit and sell their work through juried shows and member exhibits. Unique creations of pottery, jewelry, wood crafts, and other gifts made by local artisans fill our year-round gift shop and annual holiday sale. Musical and theatrical performances delight audiences of all ages, and our classrooms are pulsing with the joy of artistic discovery. We are the heart of the arts east of the river.

“Enriching, Inspiring, Accessible. Bringing professional performing arts to our community.”
Now in our 39th season, P/A brings high quality, accessible and affordable professional performing arts to northeast CT. Our own flagship programs are our FREE Children’s Educational Opera and Children’s Educational Symphony programs. Through our artistic partners, Salt Marsh Opera Company and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, local school children are introduced to the creative artistry, discipline, beauty and storyline in productions of the opera and of the orchestra. The students learn about the art form, the narrative and the music through a multi-media study guide provided to teachers. Each participating class is visited by the artists for an in-school workshop prior to the performances. In the spring, the children attend live, fully-staged productions of the opera or symphony at the Hyde Cultural Center.
