Exhibit & Proposal Guidelines Print E-mail

 WindhamARTS provides an exhibit opportunity for established and emerging artists in Connecticut.  We welcome Exhibit Proposals for original and diverse exhibits of drawing and paintings, sculpture, photography, mixed media and textiles, prints, installations, experimental work. We welcome solo or group proposals with cultural, social or topical themes.

We also, accept proposals for performing artists such as poets, musicians, puppeteers, and storytellers for activities in the Annex - our performance venue upstairs. See the Annex link on this site for booking information.

The galleries are operated by WindhamARTS. A Program Committee, comprised of professional artists and members review exhibit proposals on a regular basis. Artists and organizations may submit during our Annual Open Call.

EXHIBITOR GUIDELINES   
                          
Eligibility to exhibit is open to all artists residing in the region east of the Connecticut River. Artists and/or organizations may submit proposals for committee review and selection that are accompanied by slides or digital images of original work for solo and group exhibitions.

MEDIA
Paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, mixed media, photography, digital art, textiles, as well as installation and other experimental works are accepted for review.

DIMENSIONS
Wall pieces are not to exceed 25 lbs. and can be no larger than 72”x72”x12”. All works must be ready for hanging. (We do not provide framing or storage services.)

Exhibit Proposals must contain the following:

•    Name of artist and/or artists' group, address, telephone and e-mail.
•    A brief proposal or letter of intent with narrative explaining the concept or nature of the project.
•    A resume or biography, including relevant educational or professional experience.
•    A list of previous shows, exhibits.
•    An artist's statement (information about medium/media, artistic style, subject matter of work).
•    Documentation of the work (professional-quality slides, photographs, video or audiotape).
•    A stamped, self-addressed return envelope of appropriate size and with sufficient postage for
     notification and return of documentation materials.
•    All written materials must be typed and submitted in sets of six (6).

SLIDES
Must have legible, printed information, and be standard 35-mm paper or plastic mount slides in plastic slide protector.

Label with artist's name, title and date of work, medium, size in inches (height x width x depth), labeled “Top” in upper right hand corner, front of slide, and entry number corresponding to slide list.

If you prefer to submit a CD-ROM of digital images, please use JPEG format for images. Label files: last name, followed by the order you would like your images viewed (for example: smith_01.jpg, smith_02.jpg…), and include an Image List for the images submitted, referencing each title, date, and dimension. A note on the dimensions of a JPEG: files should not exceed 800 pixels on the longest dimension (at 72 DPI, no larger than 11 inches in the longest dimension.)

GALLERY REGULAR HOURS:

WindhamARTS provides gallery attendants for regular weekday Gallery hours: Tuesday thru Thursday; 1 - 6 pm and Saturdays by appointment. The artist and/or artists' group make arrangements for any additional hours desired while work is displayed.

NOTIFICATION
Selection review occurs on an annual basis by a Program Committee. Upon acceptance, the artist and/or artists' group will be notified to discuss the details of the exhibit and to determine exhibition dates.

The artist and/or artists' group must return the forwarded contract agreement within 10 days of receipt, committing to the dates and accepting Exhibition Terms. Failure to comply with any aspect of the contracted terms may result in removal from the Exhibit Schedule. No fees are refunded.

TERMS

AGREEMENTS:
The submission of works to the Main Gallery shall imply an agreement on the part of the artist and/or artists' group or agent to the following:

FEES:

Exhibitors are required to become members of The Collaborative as Individual Artists ($50.00 annually), which supports our space, volunteer and administrative work. 75% of all gallery sales are returned directly to the artist two weeks after the conclusion of the exhibit; 25% is retained by the Windham Arts Collaborative to support our facility.

PUBLICITY:
The Collaborative will provide basic publicity support, provided information is submitted four (4) weeks prior to the opening date. The artist and/or artists' group is responsible for design, print production, and mailing expenses of announcements or invitations. Access to the Collaborative's labeled mailing list is available for a fee of $30. Postage fees are the responsibility of the artist.

INSTALLATION:

The artist and/or members of the artists' group will deliver work on the requested dates, or by previous arrangement and all works will be ready for hanging and/or display. The Gallery reserves the right to decline any work after it is delivered to the Gallery.

The artist and/or up to two (2) members of an artists' group may assist in the installation the work on the specified date with the assistance of a member of the staff, or Program Committee. The artist or artists group will provide appropriate tools and hardware for installation. The Collaborative’s staff reserves the right to determine a best placement according to the facility, medium and safety guidelines.

RECEPTION or OPENINGS:
The artist and/or artists' group are responsible for expenses associated with the reception.

PICK UP:
At the conclusion of the exhibit, the artist and/or artists' group must retrieve all artwork on or before the agreement date. Storage charges of $5 per day will be collected before stored art is released.

LIMITATIONS:
Member groups are eligible to exhibit only one exhibit per calendar year.

INSURANCE:
The Windham Arts Collaborative, its employees, members, board, and affiliates are not responsible for loss or damage to any work, whether such work is on display or in storage. Artists and groups are encouraged to provide their own insurance.
