December 2006: It’s Your “Turn” |
|
|
|
The Garden Club of Windham received a number of woodturnings from
the Central Connecticut Woodturners who used wood salvaged from trees
in Windham. In some cases the trees may have had some historic or
sentimental value as, for example, the imposing copper beech on the
property of Ron and Nancy Ouellete of Church Street, the black walnut
on the property of Mark Doyle on Summit Street, or the hickory on the
property of Lynn and Richard Jaworowski on Ash Avenue.
The turnings will be on display in the Windham Art Center Gallery
during the Central Connecticut Woodturners 5th Annual holiday show and
sale from Friday, November 24 through Sunday, December 24th. Gallery
hours are noon to 5:00 pm every day. The opening reception is scheduled
for Saturday, November 25 from noon to 9 p.m.
The turnings will be presented to the Garden Club at a special
reception on "Windham Day", Saturday, December 16th at the Windham Art
Center, at 7 p.m.
In addition to their usual plantings in Willimantic, the Garden Club of
Windham will provide the plantings for "The Windham Garden on the
Bridge" which crosses the Willimantic River between the newly renovated
American Thread Mill on Main Street and Artspace.
The Garden Club is planning a dedication scheduled for April, 2007. The
date, time
and nature and place for the sale of the donated
woodturnings will be announced at a future date. All proceeds from the
sale of these items will benefit the Garden Club of Windham.
