“A simple bold line can be a letter used to spell words or it can be a
curve that suggests many words. I am very interested in the power of
line to express ideas….” Such is the power behind the sensual and
vibrant work of artist Arrik Kim, whose art will be on display at the
Windham Art Center and Gallery from April 13-May 8. In “Faces and
Figures” Arrik’s work represents the wonders of the body in oil,
watercolor, and carving in various woods. He uses bold cut lines and
random applied colors to express his ideas.
Following receipt of his BFA from UCONN in 1983, Arrik purchased a wood
lot and began cutting and drying wood, which led to a general love of
wood and woodworking. He uses his art experience professionally,
conceptually sketching, and working with computer aided design as an
industrial designer in East Hartford, CT. Recently, Arrik built his own
studio/workshop in Thompson where he works, focusing on the human
figure in carvings, paintings and photography. Kim has shown his work
in New York City, Washington D.C., Arlington Virginia, Miami Florida,
and around Connecticut. He is a member of the International Artist
Support Group, based in DC and has shown paintings in St. Petersburg,
Russia and New Delhi, India.
