Connecticut’s quarter design by Hampton resident Andy Jones is just one national example of his ability to render nature in the plein air style. The Windham Arts Collaborative is proud to announce an exhibition of works by Mr. Jones, which runs September 11th through October 4th, 2007. The public is invited to a free reception for "Outside" Friday, September 28th from 5:00 to 7:00PM where you can meet the artist and view his recent work.

On view will be new and selected oil paintings on masonite with related larger paintings on canvas. Of the work Jones states, “The imagery has been about my surroundings in rural northeastern Connecticut. I am attracted to working farms. I feel a sort of kinship with the people who farm and their daily rituals. Also I appreciate the architecture, equipment, fields, and animals. This narrative inclination goes back to my youth in north Carolina.” Jones was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and received his MFA in painting and printmaking from Louisiana Tech University.
Jones has also designed book jackets for Janice Trecker’s “Discovering Hampton,” and Poet Laureate Adelia Rosasco Soulee’s “Panhandle Memories.” He is an elected member of the Connecticut Plein Air Society and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. Jones is also an associate professor of art in painting and drawing. Having exhibited nationally for many years, it was 1998 when he won the U.S. Mint Quarter Design Competition for Connecticut. His work can be found in many collections, including those at the United States Mint Archives, Connecticut State Capitol, Connecticut State University System, Oklahoma Memorial Archives, University of Maine, Southwest Texas State University, and St. Andrews College, as well as private collections in the United States, England, and France.

Marion M. Callis, former director of the Akus Gallery wrote, “Andy Jones’ plein air work reflects his authenticity as an observer. The images are not nostalgic, but rather a deeply thoughtful observation of what is constant and eternal,” 2005. Andy Jones - Outside is on view until Friday, October 5, 2007.
