October 2007: Ann Williams, Celebrating Nature's Tapestry |
|
|
|
William's textile work concentrates on the beauty of the natural form and textural identities in nature. For many years, Williams has
worked with organic and natural materials such as wool, suede, sisal
and clay. She states, “Form and movement, coupled with a strong
emphasis on tactile surfaces is the heart of my work.”
Among the work Williams will exhibit, some are sculptural in material,
ceramic, and paper medias as well as woven work. Williams has worked
with various artists, such as Imna Arroyo, of “Expressions in handmade
Paper” and more recently, at a summer workshop, with Eva Ingalls of the
Center for Contemporary Printmaking.
Williams values the time invested in working with handmade paper and
mixed media. The ability to forge an energy and character, from her
materials, is evident, in the works, which will be on view in the
gallery. An observer can easily, see reflections of nature in the
delicate rock and shell-like formations.
Williams received her M.A., from Southern Connecticut State University
in New Haven and a B.F.A., from the University of Connecticut in
Storrs. With more than twenty years experience as a working artist,
Williams has exhibited around the state and now teaches art at Parish
Hill High School in Chaplin, where she is Chair of the Art Department.
Celebrating Nature’s Tapestries will be on view until Thursday,
November 1, 2007.
