Color My World - Painting by Children from Nicaragua and Tanzania.
This project was
designed to provide children living in Nicaragua and Tanzania with a
fun and creative way to contribute to their communities. In 2006, Leif
Rawson-Ahern, at student at Goddard College, traveled to Nicaragua.
Over the course of one month, she created an art project with 30
children living in a rural community in the northwestern mountains of
the country. In January of 2007,
Rawson-Ahern traveled to Tanzania and, with the assistance of Kelsey
Larson of Mansfield, CT, recreated the project with approximately 1200
students living in two communities in northern Tanzania. The Tanzanian
project was in collaboration with Pocketful of Joy, a non-profit
organization created by Charlotte Hunter of Tolland, CT.
Numerous paintings from both locations were brought back to the United
States and have continued to be displayed in various local venues.
An opening reception occurred Friday, October 12th from 6 - 8 pm upstairs in the Windham Arts Collaborative's Annex. The public was invited to come and
celebrate select pieces of artwork created by the children from both
Nicaragua and Tanzania, in an evening of fun filled entertainment. Proceeds from the benefit will fund projects in the children’s
communities.
The exhibit will be on view through November 2007.
