June 2008: EASTCONN's New Images |
|
|
The New Images program
brings together high school students from different school districts
to give them a chance to work with other students to reduce the
social, racial and ethnic isolation common in many Connecticut
areas. The primary objective of the effort is to place students
in working relationships with other students to give them experience
working collaboratively on authentic projects. This experience
helps them prepare for either work or college in the years beyond
high school.
New Images marries digital photography with creative writing.
During the course of the year, students ranging from ninth to
twelve grade, meet for a series of workshops and teambuilding
sessions where they have a chance to work together and create.
Students create a book containing their photographs and writings,
and put on an exhibit of their work, learning photography, computer
photo editing and creative writing in the process. Students are
able to acquire and sharpen skills, based on their interests that
may lead to variety of professions down the road.
The students work was unveild at a day long reception on Thursday May 29th that featured student art crtiques and performances at WindhamARTS.
