Annex June 2008: An Expression of Self: Kristi Munley Print E-mail
WindhamARTS presents local artist Kristi Munley of Willimantic in An Expression of Self a series of self – portraits. The exhibit will be on view in the Annex Gallery from May 15 – July 10. An opening reception is planned for Friday May 16th from 5 – 6 PM

Munley’s art has been deeply influenced by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. Her artistic journey began young with drawing and in college she moved on to receive her ceramics degree. Her recent work uses mixed drawing medias, which include oil pastels, colored pencil, china markers, and others. "Drawing allows me to interact directly and on a very physical level with the artwork I'm creating."

This show reflects her meaning of self. "I believe that all artwork is, in some form, a self portrait.  An artist is influenced by, and even created by, every person, situation, and experience in his or her life. Their life experiences shape who they are on the emotional, mental, and spiritual level.  Whether it is a rendering of their physical appearance, or not it, their art is still a reflection of self. "

An Expression of Self, will be on display through July 10, 2008 at  WindhamARTS in the Annex Gallery
