2005 FrogFest |

The Willimantic frogs leapt right off the famous frog bridge and into downtown from August through October 2005. The town hosted its first public art event showcasing 15 individually designed, painted and decorated fiberglass frog on spools - exact replicas of Leo Jensen's frogs that adorn Willimantic's now famous frog bridge. The reduced frogs were creatively transformed by artists and installed in several downtown locations. After the three month long public display, the frogs were sold at a live auction as the first event in the Artspace Windham gallery October 29, 2005, one week after the Willimantic River overflowed its banks.
Frogfest '05 was produced and partnered by the Windham Area Arts Collaborative and the Windham Region United Way to raise the profile of the arts in Windham, and to bring fun, positive energy to the town following a negative newspaper article in the Hartford Courant that received national attention.
