For some young artists, exhibiting in a gallery for the first time requires
courage and resolve. Dozens of regional artists, ages 18 and above, submitted to
the Windham Area Arts Collaborative’s (WAAC) juried Emerging Artists
Exhibition currently on display at the Windham Arts Center & Gallery,
and running through July 6th. Juror James Gabianelli selected over 80 pieces
from nearly 40 artists based on their quality and innovation.
Blake
Shirley of Bolton was awarded Best in Show for his conceptual painting,
“Diminution”. Other awards presented during the opening ceremonies Friday
June 2nd were: Second prize, Laura Janarelli of Enfield for “Ambitious’;
Third Prize, James Winner-Arroyo of Willimantic for “Liberation”; and
Honorable Mention, Marie Anne Foran of Willington for “Gender
Socialization”.
The Emerging Artists Exhibit Continues into the newly renovated Annex.
