We are a member organization of the Windham Area Arts Collaborative (WAAC) and an active member of its Steering Council.

History of CM . . .

Colectivo Mestizal was founded in January 2001 in the occasion of the dedication of the Julia de Burgos Park, in the corner between Jackson Street and Terry Avenue. In the spirit of the occasion, poets, musicians, and artists gathered in the park and later that evening attended the opening reception of the First Latin American Art Exhibition at the Windham Arts Center. Since then, Colectivo Mestizal has been involved in the organization of the Anniversary of the Julia de Burgos Park. Other events that we have sponsored include the Three Kings Day at Windham High School in January 2004 and the “Hecho en Cuba” Exhibit (Made in Cuba) art exhibition at the Windham Arts Center in April 2004. As part of our commitment to the promotion
of Latin American and Caribbean cultures and arts, Colectivo Mestizal will sponsor the celebration of the Anniversary of the Julia de Burgos Park in September 18, 2004 and the celebration of the Three Kings Day in January 2005. You are invited to participate in the organization and celebration of these and other events, such as book signings, poetry readings, musical performances, film presentations, discussions and more, that help build our community.
