As the days of the 25th annual Walktober wind down, The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) wants to remind you that there are still plenty of choices available, with more places to explore and lots more to experience. Close out Walktober in a flurry of fun!
Putnam holds a big key to fun on Saturday, October 24. In conjunction with the annual “Great Pumpkin Festival,” you can attend the “Congregational Church Harvest Fair & Luncheon,” HealthQuest’s “Pumpkin Parade,” “Walk in Gertrude Chandler Warner’s Footsteps,” “Did you Know?” and “Putnam River Trail’s Mill & Rail History.” All this in Putnam in one day! Plan to stay for dinner, since you will need to reenergize yourself after this full day of fun as you Discover Putnam!
Who do you think will be at the “Owl Prowl?” Horizon Wings guarantees you not only fun, but that you will see, hear and learn about live owls in Ashford. This is an outdoor event on October 24, geared towards families with children with a small entry fee.
Do you know what a Friesian is? You can “Meet the Friesians” on Sunday, October 25 and find out for yourself at Wolf Den Friesians, a local farm in Brooklyn. Enjoy a loop walk to a beaver dam after meeting the Friesians.
On the same day, “Vistas and Vegetables” takes a look at not only seasonal foliage and panoramic views in Mansfield, but explains a unique partnership that supports a young farmer and puts more land into food production in The Last Green Valley.
When you hear “witch trials” do you think of Connecticut? Attend “Connecticut’s Witch Hunt” at the Hampton Community Center on October 28 to learn that the first person that was hanged for witchcraft in New England came from Connecticut! Hear much more of this forgotten story at this telling event.
End the month with a kid-friendly, not-so-scary “Scarecrow Kingdom and Trick or Treat on Main Street” on October 31 in Killingly. Be sure to check TLGV’s website and Facebook page for last minute changes and bonus walk additions.
Even as Walktober winds down, you can continue to explore and have adventures year-round! Use your Walktober brochure to visit a trail in February that you might have missed this year.
