The power of women’s music comes to Stafford at the Ben Muzio Town House (Old Town Hall), Rt.19, June 2, 2013 from 12 noon – 6pm when the Stafford Arts Commission presents HERLAND, a music festival. The festival features 12 women musicians from the Northeast region performing folk, jazz, blues, soul and pop music.This year’s event will be hosted by musician Patti DeRosa.
In addition to the music, HERLAND features vendors offering diverse items and services. A sample of which includes jewelry, pottery, cosmetics, Hex signs, pet accessories, psychic readings, Reiki, Tibetan bowl energy and information on charitable organizations.
HERLAND also honors Connecticut author and activist Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860– 1935). In the novel, Herland, Gilman created a Utopian society of women founded on the principles of harmony, collaboration, compassion and competence. The female musicians of the HERLAND festival join together in the same spirit and celebrate diversity of style and unity of purpose.
Georgia Michalec, head of the Stafford Arts Commission said, “Last year’s event was very well attended, it was our first year and we were thrilled to see attendees enjoy the venue, as well as a unique and inspiring mix of musicians and vendors.
Food is available at the Mill Pond Store.
The event is co-sponsored by the North Central News. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for senior and students. Tickets are available at the Mill Pond Store, Route 19, Stafford Springs.
